One of our favorite wedding photographers are Lawrence & Samantha. Both extremely talented engagement and wedding photographers what define whose unique style they do with natural light and off-camera flash. Their signature shots look like magical movie posters or dramatic romance novel covers. They are truly pieces of art.
We were honored when they came to us to design logos for their brand Studio Grey.
Wedding photography business is highly competitive and deals with a service that is fraught with perils. You are taking photos of the most important event in a couple’s life and hence carry with you a measure of responsibility that goes beyond just a business transaction. Since the event takes place only once – hopefully – if you do not do a good job, you could end up turning a happy event into something the couple would get hurt over.
So, in essence, a wedding photographer is a professional. And any professional requires a professional image and branding to go with it. To garner the trust of potential clients who are looking for someone they could trust with their wedding photos, you need to demonstrate your professional with great logo design. Of course, your skill as a photographer your past work would be the main selling tools but the right logo and branding would go a long way in making that crucial connection.
This is one such epic story of branding we did for a wedding photography business and with your permission please help us to guide the process of how we created a logo design for wedding photographers.
Studio Grey wanted us to focus on magic moments in the marriages into the logo design to anchor their brand story and hence create a bond with their customers. Here our team began their process of researching the Indian wedding photography industry and realized that most of them had very elegant and old-fashioned logos. While this is not to say such branding is bad, for this client, it meant that they would have to buck that trend to stand out from the competition and create brand recall. We also researched the local businesses to get an understanding of how these businesses were communicating with the market. They were someones, to be fair but most of them looked the same.
Knowing the customer is must and we at orrigem strives to know what our clients are in. To know Studio Grey well we worked hard to identify the ideal couple that they wanted to target. At the end of the exercise, we knew the exact kind of people the client wanted to attract to their business.
This insight helped us tremendously not only in terms of the logo design but also for creating other brand elements. After several brainstorming sessions, we showed the client several different concepts that included couples designs as well as some with images related to photography and weddings (rings, flowers etc).
The client selected the illustration and font style that you see on this page.
The illustration here depicts the emotion of two hearts after getting married. The next step was the selection of colors. Colors add to the total feel of the logo. Here we selected the color pink, as it is a delicate color that means sweet, nice, playful, cute, romantic, charming and tenderness. The color pink is also the color of the universal love of oneself and of others. Pink represents friendship, affection, harmony, inner peace, and approachability. The outcome is the design that you see on this page and after a few tweaks, we had a professional, simple, elegant and iconic logo design of Studio Grey. Now the Studio grey is one of the prized possessions of both Orrigem and Studio grey where with studio grey being used in their visual brand elements.
